Company History
Northeast Kingdom Homecare, Inc was founded on the need for organized non-medical senior care during a discussion around the dinner table. Debra & Gerry Hunt, Andrea & Don Hunt, and Pam Newell moved the idea into fruition in 2004, rapidly assembling a team of caregivers and placing them in one-on-one care positions.
With in-home care as the focus, our team soon recognized the lack of socialization for our clientele. The Meeting Place came to be in 2005, with the purchase and renovation of an historic church on Second Street in Newport. TMP provides day services and organized activities in a comfortable social setting where friends come together to talk, eat, play and create.
NEKHC and The Meeting Place have grown to serve clients throughout Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom. Caregiving and Day Services, our two divisions, have both grown beyond expectations, and staff and management have shifted to keep pace. Employee training and benefits are geared toward quality and competitive practices, care plans are individually developed for clients, and services have expanded as needs were identified.
The Hunt family continues to hold controlling ownership and responsibility for the company with Gerry’s widow, Elaine Lockwood, President, continuing in the line of family managers.
Our Mission
Provide cost-effective personal care for people who may need assistance with activities of daily living in their homes, in a group facility, or in our adult day center "The Meeting Place". We believe that senior citizens who want to remain in their homes should be able to secure the support they need to allow them to do so.
